Different Types Of Chemical Peels For Facial Wrinkles

Chemical Peels: Choosing The Best One For You

Skin care is of great importance these days because of the desperation of society to keep aging at bay. As a result, chemical peels have found their way into fashion. However, there are different types that you could choose from.

Chemical peels are actually very versatile and can be used as a solution for a whole variety of problems. They are extremely popular as a result of how effective they are as well as the fact that the majority of people can afford to have one these days.

The basic procedure is simple. The specialist performing the procedure will apply caustic acid to the skin, which then burns the epidermis, or the upper layer of skin, so that it can be gently removed. This allows a new layer of skin to form and thus leaves you face glowing with youth and health. Some chemical peels may go deeper and remove the dermis too.

The main reason why individuals opt for chemical peels is to remove blemishes and damaged skin. This could have originally been caused by acne scarring, exposure to the sun, freckles and wrinkles. All are ultimately signs of aging.

The skin will usually heal within a few days of having a chemical peel. It will look tighter and youthful because the chemical peel actually stimulates collagen production. However, in order to get the best results, you first have to choose the best of the four main types of chemical peel for you.

AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) - This is the mildest chemical peel that you can opt to have. All of the chemicals involved are made with sugar derivatives, including fruit acids, lactic acid and glycolic acid.

Dermatologists commonly perform AHA chemical peels. In fact, it is so mild that is actually an outpatient procedure and can be done within an hour or so, hence the nickname lunchtime peel. It also only takes a matter of hours for the skin to heal minus the pigmentation problems, acne scarring, sunspots and sun damage that were there before! Usually an esthetician or dermatologist will perform the treatment.

BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acids) - BHA chemical peels are similar to AHA peels but with one major difference. BHA peels are oil soluble and thus clean the skin and removes bacteria at the same time. Sebum oil and dead skins cells are removed, which makes it ideal for individuals with skin conditions that are a result of bacteria. This includes psoriasis, dermatitis and acne.

TCA (Trichloaroacetic Acid) - Unlike the previous two mentioned, TCA is a medium peel in that it goes slightly deeper and has amazing effects that last much longer. It can also solve more skin problems as a result. It does the job of AHA and BHA peels but takes a few weeks to heal properly. Acne, freckles, pigmentation problems, sun damage, scars and the signs of aging can all be treated with this chemical peel, and it can also be used to remove the top layer of tattoos, which then lightens them.

Phenol Peels - This is about as deep as you can get with a chemical peel. It removes the top layers of skin and cleanses the deeper layers. However, phenol peels can actually cause heart problems because phenol is absorbed through the skin into the blood stream. It is toxic and takes weeks to heal properly. It is not as safe as your other options and thus is not used very often now.

Although you have the choice of all three peels, most dermatologists will recommend the TCA peels. They are affordable and relatively safe and thus will give you a younger, healthier appearance as well as peace of mind.

Test Drive Your Diet Plan Over The Holidays

You wouldn't buy a new car without taking it for a test drive. Then why commit to a diet plan without testing it first?

Think about it.

You test-drive a car to make sure you'll enjoy a smooth, comfortable ride. And most importantly, you want to know the car will take you to your destination.

If it doesn't, you won't buy that car. Or if you've been duped and got stuck with a "lemon," you'll trade the car for one that works.

Then why don't we hold our diet plans to the same standards?

We've been so conditioned to suffer when we lose weight that we've come to expect - and accept - a bumpy ride in the form of hunger, deprivation and unappetizing food.

And how many times has your diet plan or weight loss program failed to get you to your destination, otherwise known as your target weight?

You deserve to know if your weight loss program will work in any situation at any time of the year.

So take your diet plan for a test drive. And if it doesn't work, don't make excuses for it don't beat yourself up like it's your fault just dump it.

The hardest tests for any diet plan happen during the holidays because they're a source of endless temptation.

Many of these holiday tests occur in social situations. Which makes sense because other people often put intense pressure on us to cheat on our diets.

So unless you intend to become a hermit or a martyr, make sure your diet plan gives you a smooth, comfortable ride past these 7 holiday tests:

1. Holiday Dinners.

The biggest one in the U.S. is Thanksgiving. But each holiday presents its own eating challenges.

Are you going to miss all the pleasures of holiday dinners - including the social aspects of sharing traditional foods - just because you need to lose weight?

There will always be special occasions like holiday dinners, birthdays and weddings that won't fit into a stringent diet.

So choose a weight loss program that can handle these special occasions realistically and let you enjoy life.

2. The Big Game.

In the U.S., it's the Super Bowl.

But there are many sporting events throughout the year where food plays a big role. Are you really going to nibble celery and carrot sticks when everyone else is enjoying pizza and beer?

Or will you simply skip any event that threatens your weight loss success?

That's no way to live.

You don't have to eat everything in sight. But you should find a diet plan that will let you socialize at sporting events without feeling like an outcast.

3. Holiday Parties.

One of the biggest social tests for any diet plan is a holiday party. But parties can occur throughout the year.

Whether it's with a group of friends or professional colleagues, there's a lot of pressure to join in the fun - and that includes eating and drinking.

Make sure your diet plan provides effective strategies for dealing with drinks and party snacks.

4. Restaurants and Dining Out.

This test can happen throughout the year, but never more intensely than during the holiday season.

Can your weight loss program handle it or will it be a diet killer?

5. The Office.

Your office can cause any number of diet disasters.

Candy jars, morning doughnut surprises, birthday parties, retirement parties, client lunches, client dinners, and of course, holiday office parties.

With candy jars, you can graciously decline to snack. It's just a matter of willpower.

But with client dinners and holiday office parties, you'd better show up or it could cost you your job. So if you want to lose weight, you have to be able to work these situations into your diet plan.

More eating temptations occur at the office during the holidays than at any other time. So if your diet plan works then, you should be safe throughout the year.

6. Holiday Desserts.

Sweet temptations abound over the holidays - whether you're at social gatherings or home alone trying to resist leftover desserts. Can you work these sweets into your diet from time to time?

If you can, you should be able to successfully handle any cravings for sweets during the rest of the year.

7. No Time To Exercise.

Even though exercise is good for your health, exercise programs often become the first casualty of the busy holiday season.

But problems with exercise can occur at any time during the year. Suppose you're injured in an accident. Or work or family problems take up so much time, you can't exercise.

It's best to choose a diet plan that will work with or without regular exercise. The weight loss benefits of exercise should be a bonus, not a necessity.

These are the 7 hardest holiday tests. But there's another reason to make sure your diet plan will survive the holidays: they come around every year.

You don't want to reach your target weight during the off-season only to regain your extra pounds over the holidays.

So test-drive your diet plan this holiday season.

If you can enjoy a smooth, comfortable ride and reach your destination (or at least come closer to it), then you can be reasonably confident that your weight loss program will work throughout the year.

10 Weight Loss Tips for Permanent Weight Loss

1. Eat only when you are hungry.

This means stop eating the minute you are full. This means if you go out to dinner and eat all the bread in the breadbasket you don't eat your dinner. This means if it is lunch break at work and you aren't hungry don't eat. This means if you are in the middle of a sandwich and you are no longer hungry, you stop eating.

2. When you aren't hungry and eating for joy only, make sure you are eating something fantastic and tasting every bite.

There will be times when you want to eat just for the joy of it. I say if you only do this 10% of the time you can still lose weight. But the trick is to make sure you enjoy each bite, taste it fully and stop as soon as the joy of eating it fades. If you pay attention, you will be surprised how soon this might be.

3. Be curious about yourself-not judgmental.

When you do something that you think is "off" you plan of what you would like to be doing, be curious and try to find out why you do what you do. Explore the thoughts that lead to the action. Be kind and understanding with yourself. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt.

4. Believe it is possible to be thin without being mean to yourself.

You do not have to beat yourself into submission for thinness. In fact, I have found the opposite is true. Loving yourself and being kind to yourself is a much better path to permanent weight loss.

5. Feel your feelings.

Be anxious. (Don't eat.) Be sad. (Don't eat.) Be afraid. (Don't eat.) Be angry. (Don't eat.) If you use eating as an alternative to feeling you are most likely going to be overweight. The sooner you feel your feelings the sooner they will subside.

6. Stop expecting things "out there" to change so you can feel better.

Don't wait for a better job, a thinner body, a nicer husband or a better tasting diet in order to be happy. You can be the source of your own joy by finding out what you love to do and who you love to be. By living your own truth, you can be happy no matter what is going on "out there."

7. Even when you think you have "blown it" write down every piece of food that goes into your mouth and then read that list with fascination.

It may feel better to write in the food journal when you are eating fuel most of the time, but that is not when it is the most important. When you are fog eating and storm eating and binging and going crazy with food, you have the best opportunity to learn about yourself and why you do what you do. No matter how much you have eaten and no matter how big the binge was, write down every single thing that went into your mouth and look at it with kind curiosity.

8. Realize that eating when you aren't hungry is not satisfying hunger or comforting you-it's just making you heavy.

Notice the terminology you use when discussing food. " I had my chocolate fix." " I needed comfort food." "I wanted to give myself a treat." Food is not a good source of emotional comfort and it cannot fix you.

9. Remember the past does not equal the future

We have all been on many many diets. Many of us have been heavy a long time. This does not mean that you can't lose weight. You have been doing the best you can. And when you know better- you do better- and you look better.
